October 28

Hello to the week Little River School Community!

This past week we have been acknowledging Anti-Bullying Week,
culminating in wearing orange on Friday. Stopping bullying is up to each
of us. There is no place for bullying in our Leader in Me school. Please
talk with your student about what each learned about bullying this week.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the PTO Teach or Treat event
this past Thursday! It opened our Bookfair with a lot of fun. It was also
neat to see all of the character costumes on Thursday from student reading.
The book fair will continue this week, so get your orders in. Your support
is very much appreciated!

Have a great week of school and have a fun, safe Halloween! And
remember to walk the river way every day in Beaver Nation: to learn
respect and shine!

Kindly,
Dr. C. Hogans

October 19

Hello to the week Little River School Community!
The close of October brings us closer to our PTO Haunted
Bookfair and Teach or Treat event!

As we transition from the first quarter to the second quarter,
our students will be moving from their focus on an overview
of the 7 Habits and Habit 1 into a focus on Habit 2. Ask your
child(ren) about what each is learning about the 7 Habits
and how the Habits can help them to be a WaveMaker in
Beaver Nation.

On Wed afternoon, several of our students will be recognized
by the Dr. Mubenga as their artwork is put on display at Fuller
Bldg. Further, If you make it out to the state fair this year, be
sure to check out tge display of artwork by Little River students.

Here are some other updates for this week:

Also on Wed, the seventh and eighth graders will hold their
piano lab concert at 6:30 here at the school.

As mentioned above, the PTO Bookfair will take begin next Thursday.

The PTO community yard sale will be held Saturday,
October 27 at the school. Check flyers in backpacks for
more information.
Have a great week of school! And remember to walk the

October 12

Hello to the week Little River School Community!
We have had quite the adventure with the recent weather.
I am thankful for a return to the routine of school for our
community. I hope that each of you has endured the weather
safely.

Durham Public Schools is canceling the early release
dates of Wednesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, April 3,
to make up for the first date we lost to Hurricane Michael,
Thursday, Oct. 11. DPS is still evaluating options for making
up the instructional time lost on Oct. 12. Listen out for future
announcements regarding the decision on this.

Check our calendar for happenings this week at Little River.
Have a great week of school! And remember to walk the
river way every day in Beaver Nation: to learn respect and shine!

October 5

Hello to the week Little River School Community!
It appears that we are starting to see signs of Fall.
With the change in weather comes mid-quarter progress
reports and Fall conferences. This is a great time to check
in with your child’s teacher about how things are going.

Students are continuing to learn about all of the 7 Habits
and doing a great job with practicing using them. We
recognize students for this work through our Wavemaker
recognition. Ask your child about how they can be recognized
a Wavemaker in Beaver Nation. It is what I call ‘walking the
River Way’!

Thanks to everyone who came out to PTO Science Night
last Thursday! It seemed a fun, great event. Thank you to
our parent partners for coordinating this event with PTO,
parents, teachers and Duke University.

Here’s some other news for the upcoming week:

The PTO will meet Monday at 6pm in the school media center;

Congratulations to the following artists who will have their
artwork displayed at the NC State Fair in Raleigh: Connor
in 1st grade; Aubrey in kindergarten;  and Genesis and Ryann
in 2nd grade; Grayson in 3rd grade; Victoria in 4th grade; Cal
in 8th grade; Sara, Elijah, and Yazmin in 6th grade; Dayanara

Have a great week of school! And remember to walk the river

  • Also middle grades will host it’s rescheduled curriculum night on Monday.
  • This Thursday is our PTO Science Night! Come enjoy a great family event with hands-on learning and fun activities.
Thank you to those of you who came out 5th grade’s curriculum night and for those who came out to enjoy the back to school dance. We also appreciate your support of our PTO with the quarter auction this past Saturday. If you haven’t yet joined our PTO, please consider doing so.
