SCHOOL
RE-OPENING
o
Last
week, the State Board of Education unveiled their guidance for
reopening school buildings next year. Schools will create 3
different plan levels that will vary depending on the level of risk being posed
by the COVID virus at any given time. Social distancing, symptom screening,
educator PPE, and local planning procedures are all addressed, and it follows
the format of the guidance released by DHHS on last Monday.
DPS wants to know what you think about what school should look like next year.
DPS encourages all DPS families to take this survey
that will help us plan for the new school year, especially as we prepare for
multiple possibilities for remote and technology-assisted learning.

REGISTRATION

Greetings
to our future kindergarten families! Currently, we are not able to register in
person, but Little River really would love to hear from you. DPS is working on
a new system for registration. Please complete this
form to ensure you will be personally notified when
this new system is ready for you to register your kindergartner. We anticipate
sending out notifications to families in early July with
information on the new kindergarten registration process. While you are waiting

EXPLORE DURHAM
SUMMER ENRICHMENT
#ExploreDurham2020 is a weekly summer enrichment program for Durham families.
Each week will feature history, literature, arts, math, and science activities
and learning opportunities in and around our great city. Starting on June 15th, families can find
ideas and information to get out and about in the Bull City while still
following state and Durham guidelines for social distancing and other health
precautions at https://bit.ly/exploredurham2020.

NORTH CAROLINA
STUDENT ACADEMY OF SCIENCE This summer, the North Carolina Student Academy
of Science Board is providing a new and exciting opportunity for elementary
students to learn how to conduct scientific research and write a research
paper. The workshops it is offering will be held through Zoom on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays starting July 20 and going through July 31. For each of
the workshops, it will offer a morning session (10-11AM) and an afternoon
session (2-3PM). They are free for all students, and students may attend as
many workshops as they would like. Register for the workshops using our google

BOOK HARVEST Book Harvest has
launched its Rapid Response Summer Strategy – opening the doors of a temporary
6,000 square foot Rapid Response Center adjacent to Book Harvest headquarters at
2501 University Drive in Durham’s Rockwood Shopping Center. Out of this Center,
Book Harvest will ensure the safe and plentiful provision of books to local
children throughout the summer – with the ambitious goal of providing 75,000
books to Durham children by the end of August. More information about book

IREADY UPDATES If you were
using iReady during the closure, please know that student iReady will extend
access for students & teachers until July 24th.
· YEARBOOKS
o
Unfortunately, the school
closure cut into the time we would usually be selling and distributing
yearbooks. We are hoping to offer them at the beginning of next school year
(including to families who have left Little River). If you are interested in
purchasing a yearbook from the 2019-2020 school year when we return to school
this fall, please complete the form at this link.
· AP VIRTUAL SUMMER
SCHOLARS CAMP: JUNE 29 – JULY 2, 2020:

All
rising 8th – 12th graders taking an AP (Advanced Placement) Class in 2020-2021
or students who want to
know more about AP classes are encouraged to enroll.

Rising
8th and 9th graders will explore AP Human Geography, AP Literature/Language,
and AP mathematic content and skill, as well as the “AP Survivor Hour” focused
on developing specific strategies and skills to be a successful AP
student.
