News you can use!

  • Chromebook/Hotspot Collection

    • In-Person Learning-Starting next Tuesday (6/1), students' Chromebooks will stay at school so that teachers can begin the process of collecting them.  If your child is an in-person learner and you received a hot spot from the school, please send it in next Tuesday (send with the eldest sibling if you have multiple children at LR.) 

    • Virtual Remote Learning-If your child is a virtual learner, you may drop off their devices either Friday, June 4th or Monday, June 7th. 

  • Enjoy our amazing Guitar and Ukulele students recording  of "Virtual Spring Concert" - LINK. Thank you to parent partner Mr. Kary and his team for working with our students!

  • Report cards will be available via Parent Portal on Friday.

  • Family Academy-Learn ideas for summer learning at home! Please join us on Wednesday, May 26th from 6-7 PM for Little River’s Unleash Your Child's Potential Virtual Family Academy event. Session Description: Find out what you can do at home that will make a huge difference in your child's academic achievement and confidence level. You will leave with a simple yet creative way to get your child to read and do math independently. This session is targeted for families with students in Grades PreK-5. Register at https://tinyurl.com/3z765np7. Zoom link will be shared prior to the session.

  • As another school year is coming to a close, Crayons2Calculators (C2C) is hard at work planning its annual Fill that Bus event. From July 12 through August 13, C2C will be rallying together to raise funds and collect classroom essentials to support local teachers. It’s mission is to directly equip Durham Public School teachers with the school supplies they need to help reduce barriers to success for every student. You Can Help by making financial donations to C2C or donating supplies to the C2C warehouse at 808 Bacon St, Durham, NC 27703 anytime between July 12 and August 13. Check the C2C website for more information.

  • Do you need consistent, reliable access to the internet? The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides a temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying households. If your household is eligible, you can receive:

    • A discount on your broadband service and associated equipment rentals

    • A discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer

  • End-of-Grade Testing begins this week for students in grades 3 through grade 8. Please see this letter for schedule. Consult your child’s teacher for questions!

  • DPS will offer a variety of Summer Programming

    • DPS will offer several different options for students who are interested in summer enrichment opportunities. Find here a list of programs currently to be offered by DPS.

    • DPS Community Education will offer its traditional camps, combining enrichment activities with traditional recreational opportunities. These programs will operate out of Club Blvd. and Bethesda.  The information is on the DPS website under Programs & Services tab.  Here is the direct link for registration and information.

  • NCCU VACCINE CLINIC Please share this information with your school community and students 16 years of age and older. High schools, please share with your seniors and their guests that plan on attending graduation as the more people that attend who are vaccinated, the safer the ceremonies will be for everyone.  North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has a limited supply of all three COVID-19 vaccines: Moderna and Pfizer (two-dose) and Johnson & Johnson (one-dose). The NCCU COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will be operational on the following dates: Tuesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 13. The clinic will be open for appointments from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., for members of NCCU and the greater Durham and Triangle communities. Walk-up appointments will also be available.

  • Picture Day: There will be a picture day for remote only students on Wednesday, May 12th from 1-3pm.  No appointment necessary. Find pricing here.

  • Leadership Day is right around the corner, and we are excited for it. This year, our leadership day will be virtual and will be a mix of pre-recorded and live zoom sessions.  Our theme is Big Rocks/Little Rocks and we are focusing on how we and our students have navigated making priorities this year while we have all undergone so much upheaval.
