  • It is Teacher Appreciation Week at Beaver Nation! Feel free to send your child(ren)’s teacher a note of gratitude! 

  • Many of our families have completed the BACK-TO-SCHOOL FORM for the Best.School.Year.Ever. Campaign for 2022-2023. There is still time to fill out the BACK TO SCHOOL FORM! Your form will help us prepare for welcoming your child next year!

  • COVID Reporting Update-Please note there was an error in reporting of the number of cases and close contacts. Last week, Little River reported 2 positive cases with 15 close contacts.

  • DUKE BOOST APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN Duke’s Building Opportunities and Overtures in Science and Technology (BOOST) applications for the 2022-2023 season are open: here. The BOOST Program is open to rising 6th-8th graders in Durham Public Schools.  For more information, contact Douglass Coleman douglass.coleman@duke.edu, phone: 919-681-1045.

  • Recently we learned of the results of the recent Battle of the Books Competition. DPS had 37 schools compete in the district competition. We invite you to watch this three-minute video celebrating the wonderful high school, middle school, and elementary readers who entered the competition. See the Little River teams at 1:36 (middle) and 2:43 (elementary). We hope all teams had fun and thank you parents for your support!

  • Congratulations also to our Spring athletes as teams move into tournament play and close of season!

  • April is Autism Acceptance Month. Ask your child about the autism awareness question of the day, shared on our morning announcements!

  • DPS student artwork is now on display at The Streets at Southpoint, located at 6910 Fayetteville Road! Secondary students’ art is on display through April 30, and elementary students’ art takes its turn to shine May 2-21. You can view the pieces throughout the mall during regular business hours.

  • DPS is “Mask Recommended” DPS announced at its March 24 Board meeting that DPS is shifting from “masks required” to “masks recommended” for students and staff effective Monday, April 11.  You can read about our COVID-19 Protocol Updates for April 11 at this link. If you have any questions or concerns about COVID-19 protocols, please email Dr. Hogans.

  • April is Autism Acceptance Month. Please join Little River in celebrating neurodiversity from April 11- May 6th by asking your child about the question of the day from the morning announcements!

  • This past Saturday at PTO Little Shops DPS launched the “Best.Year.Ever.” campaign for 2022-2023 Many of our families completed the BACK-TO-SCHOOL FORM. Fill out the BACK TO SCHOOL FORM between now and April 22. Your form will help us prepare for welcoming your child next year by:

  • Signing your child up for bus transportation

  • Updating your contact information so that we may reach you in an emergency

  • Providing you with updated information on district policies

  • DPS is preparing for 2022-2023! Families have the opportunity to  get a head start on Back to School 2022-2023. DPS will launch the “Best.Year.Ever.” As we move into the final quarter of 2021-2022, our Back-to-School campaign for 2022-2023 begins this April to help prepare for the coming school year. Join us during the PTO Spring Little Shops as well as during PTO Book Fair to complete contact information updates and verify transportation requests.

  • College and Career Promise for Middle and High Schools Students & Families The DPS Family Academy has partnered with Durham Technical Community College to offer a virtual class on Career Choice and Free College Tuition on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.  This workshop is open to middle and high school students and families.  For more information, please contact the Family Academy at (919) 560-3816 ext. 22319 or Family.Academy@dpsnc.net.
