• The PTO Book Fair is open this week! PTO has several fun events to accompany the fair which will be open April 14th - 21st. You can shop online and set up an e-wallet (cashless sales) for your student at: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/littleriverschool1. See schedule below!. 

• April 14th - class preview day at book fair

• April 17th - 2:30pm - Grand Friends Tea in the Media Center (look for the invite to color in your packet)

• April 20th - Comedy Worx Comedy Night for the whole family, two shows: 5:30 - 5:50 and 6:20 - 7:00pm - book fair will also be open that evening

• April 21st - last day to shop the book fair

• DUKE BOOST APPLICATIONS OPEN Duke’s Building Opportunities and Overtures in Science and Technology (BOOST) applications for the 2023-2024 season are open, information and application here. The BOOST Program is open to rising 6th-8th graders in Durham Public Schools.  For more information, contact Douglass Coleman, at: 919-681-1045.

• Growing Together Secondary Meetings Please register to attend and participate in upcoming conversations about how Growing Together will benefit middle school and high school students beginning the 2024-2025 school year. https://bit.ly/3Kbf4qB .

• March 22, Middle Grades Chorus/Piano Concert

• March 27-31, Spring Break

• April 6, Field Day (Rain Date, April 14)

News you can use!

• The 7th and 8th grade piano class and the 6th-8th grade chorus will be presenting their spring concert on Wednesday, March 22, 7pm.  Chorus students should wear black and white.  Piano students should report to the Piano Lab at 6:30pm.  Chorus students should report to the gym at 6:30pm.  The show will begin at 7pm. The concert is free and open to the public!

• A reminder to our 5th, 6th & 7th grade families: please complete the intent survey for next year. The deadline for completion is this Friday, March 24th.

• Mark your calendars for Science Night! This free family event will take place on Thursday, March 16th from 5:00-8:00 PM here at the school. Join us for hands-on science experiments and demonstrations that are fun for the whole family! Students will also experience a Mobile Dairy Lab on March 14 in preparation for this fun event.

• Penny Wars is underway! Ask your child how you can help their grade level win!

• 5th Grade/Middle Grades Parents: Please complete the recently sent intent form for 2023-2024, the last year of middle grades at Little River. Reach out to your child’s teacher or Dr. Hogans if you need a new form.

• February 20, Teacher Workday

News you can use!

• PTO Dine Out Event-Monday through Thursday this week, Elmo’s Diner is hosting a dine out week for Little River! A percentage of all dine in sales from Monday through Thursday will be donated back to our school. Be sure to tell them you’re with Little River! Members of the PTO board will be there for breakfast Thursday morning after drop off and would love to have you join us. Elmo’s is located at 776 9th Street and their hours are 7am-3pm daily.

• Kids Heart Challenge-Only a few days left to support this initiative! Please register your child online here or download the free app to participate for iPhone and Android. All donations are due by Feb. 15th.

• Growing Together-Presentation slides will be available soon!
