• The Link to Curriculum Night will be shared with you by your child’s classroom teacher. Please RSVP here as to whether you plan to attend. If you need translation support, please indicate here.

• In conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Durham Public Schools will begin providing weekly COVID-19 testing on site at Little River. This is a voluntary testing process designed to help identify potential COVID-19 cases more quickly and limit the potential spread of the virus. Sign up via information letter here: ENG  SPA. Learn more about COVID-19 testing here. In order for students to be included in the first round of testing, permission forms must be submitted by Sunday, October 10th. Paper forms can be picked up at the front of the school. You can request a paper form to come with your child here.

• Little River conducted a lockdown drill on September 30. As with  our monthly fire drills, DPS recommends that schools conduct lockdown drills periodically during the  school year. If you have questions about our safe schools plan, please feel free to contact Dr. Hogans

• This week progress reports will be shared. Please follow up with your child’s teacher regarding your child’s performance.

• Help DPS name its newest Elementary School! DPS is seeking input from staff and the community for a name for its newest elementary school to be located near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and S. Roxboro Road. Visit ENGAGE.dpsnc.net and select ‘Elementary School F’ to share your name suggestions (under the Ideas tab). The new school is slated to open Summer 2023. 

• Duke University Athletics invites staff and students to Duke v Kansas Football! All interested attendees need to do is visit www.GoDuke.com/durhamschools to register by 5:00pm on Thursday, Sep 23, 2021for free tickets!

• DPS recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15. Listen for ways in which your child’s classroom is recognizing Hispanic Heritage! #dspcelebrates

• HISPANIC EDUCATION VIRTUAL PARENT FAIR

• For those who have pre-registered, this event is happening September 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, & 23!

• It is Instructional Assistant Appreciation Week!

• If your classroom is served by one of our valued teacher assistants, please click here to learn how you can express appreciation for their work!

• The NCDHHS and its Youth Public Health Advisors have created this website about COVID-19 vaccines. Check out Teen Vax Facts in English and Spanish.

• EOG 2021 Scores Available!

• All of the student reports have now been loaded into the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  You can access your student’s reports by clicking the “State Test Reports” icon in the navigation pane on the left side of the parent portal, if your student took the EOG last Spring.  Contact Dr. Hogans if you need support in accessing your child’s scores.

• Free COVID Testing Sites-See the attached flyers for some of the free testing sites in Durham with whom DPS has partnered.

• The first PTO fundraiser of the year, the annual silent auction, is underway! Visit  LittleRiverPTO.weebly.com to participate. We appreciate your support! 

• We encourage families of bus riders to download the Here Comes the Bus app to your mobile phone. Get alerts to arrival times and track your child’s bus. Download the app here.

• Please note the message below from NC DPI concerning the impact of the national food shortage on cafeteria menu.

  • “Due to the unavailability of certain items, menus are subject to change without notice. Food and supply shortages are being experienced nationwide. Our district is experiencing last minute notice of unavailable items and/or last minute replacements.We appreciate your patience and understanding. We look forward to serving free breakfast and lunch to all of our students during the 2021-2022 school year.”

• Duke University  invites Little River staff and students out to Duke Volleyball's Match vs Elon at Historic Cameron Indoor Stadium on August 31st for Back-to-School Night. Admission is free and Duke Branded School Supplies will be handed out if you arrive early! This event is free for everyone so all you have to do is walk in! Parking is also free and can be done at the Whitford Lot on Whitford Dr. or the Grounds Lot on Frank Basset Dr. The doors of Cameron will open at 5:30 PM.

• We are glad to welcome your student safely back to school! Find out COVID Protocols for schools here!

• Meet Little River staff at our Virtual Open House!

• Students will receive their Chromebooks the first day of school. The Little River School Student-Family Handbook is available on our school website for your review. (Check under ‘Quicklinks.’) You can also find the DPS Student Handbook at this link. This first week is a great time to familiarize yourself with school rules and policies.

• We encourage everyone to ride the school bus, but understand that many families will choose to transport by car. Please review car rider line procedures here!
